Dry Brushing 101

The ancient technique of dry brushing is one of the simplest and most effective practices for the health of the skin and body. While dry brushing leads to softer, glowing skin, its benefits go more than skin deep.

The lymphatic system is extremely important for the human body. It works to support our immune system and helps nourish and cleanse our cells. Lymph fluid, which is what runs throughout your lymphatic system, doesn’t circulate like blood. Instead, it moves throughout the body with small muscle movements. If you have an inactive lifestyle or are sedentary with work for long periods of time, the lymph fluid can build up. Drybrushing to the rescue.

The ancient technique of drybrush is one of the simplest and most effective practices for the health of the skin and body. While dry brushing leads to softer, glowing skin, its benefits go more than skin deep. It stimulates lymphatic drainage, boosts circulation and exfoliates the skin, increasing its elasticity and tone and even minimizing the appearance of cellulite.

Dry brushing is done prior to showering, removing dead skin cells so that new ones can be formed. Dry brushing also helps the body breathe. Absorb oxygen and show off toxins. The Increased circulation also brings blood to the skin’s surface, tightening ti and giving it a natural golden glow, helping you to look years younger.

THE METHOD

  1. Before you shower, use a natural bristle brush (We love The Golden Secrets). Start at your feet, moving upwards toward your torso. Always move toward your heart and brush your entire body, not forgetting the nooks and crannies, including between the toes and ears.

  2. Add a couple drops of your favorite essential oil or body oil to your brush for an enhanced experience. Add one to two drops of this oil blend to the palm of your hand and glide your dry brush over the palms to saturate the bristles before dry brushing.

After dry brushing, follow your usual process of bathing, and be sure to nourish/moisturize thoroughly. The exfoliating effects of dry brushing allows body lotions and oils to penetrate the skin more effectively. And hydrating with your favorite body cream or oil after dry brushing will further support circulation, reduce stress and let you bask in even more self love. We love incorporating dry brushing every morning, as a great way to wake up!
